Earthquake in southern Japan impacts production
On the morning of January 22nd, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Japan. While the quake hit off the coast of Kyushu, the shaking in Miyazaki and Oita was severe. Roads, buildings, and water pipes were damaged, and 13 people in nearby regions were injured.
A major multinational conglomerate suspended operations at a plant that produces semiconductors/system LSI chips for cars and industrial machinery in Oita. While the company is still evaluating the full impact on production, the earthquake caused damage to equipment.
