Employee Spotlight: Matthew Bergeron

The role of a global CPU commodity manager is like the conductor of an intricate supply chain orchestra, according to Matthew Bergeron. He elaborates, “It’s important to know which participants should be playing what parts, for how long, and for what audience.” With extensive experience in this position, Matthew takes joy in finding creative solutions to problems and staying ahead of the evolving CPU market, especially in the face of supply chain disruptions.

Man headshotWhile he began his career in investment banking, Matthew was curious about the electronics market he kept hearing about. A friend in the industry suggested he explore this field, and the rest is history. Matthew joined Converge’s purchasing department in July 1998 and was promoted to global CPU commodity manager in 2009. Today, he continues to bring his wealth of knowledge and curiosity to Converge.

Matthew stays motivated by surrounding himself with a support team of positive people. He says it takes a village to succeed in this business and takes joy in being a part of others’ success. Matthew appreciates Converge’s collaborative global environment sharing, “developing customer and supplier relationships, achieving goals, and fostering a positive work culture are just a few of the many aspects I enjoy about my job.” Furthermore, the best piece of advice he has received in his career is, if you are afraid to fail, then you are not trying hard enough. This advice has guided him through various challenges and opportunities.

In his role, Matthew faces challenges, particularly with understanding the market context behind selecting the right parts for our customers. He credits the support of management and his counterpart, Catlina Wong, with helping him navigate decisions effectively. For over 26 years, Matthew has demonstrated a deep commitment to excellence. His manager, Mike Gately, global commodity director, says, “Matthew has a very positive influence on the people around him. Combine that with his market knowledge and he is a great team player.”

To manage the risks associated with CPU supply chain disruptions, Matthew closely monitors market and pricing trends while taking customer forecasts and supplier feedback into account. Matthew adds, “Converge’s CPU specialists and CPU testing capabilities are world-class along with our team who receives and inspects products. I’m immensely proud of Converge’s significant investments to protect our customers and secure the supply chain.”

Reflecting on his time with Converge, Matthew fondly recalls memorable experiences, such as traveling to Beijing, Taipei, and Singapore. These trips allowed him to explore new cultures and create lasting memories with colleagues.

Matthew shares his life with his wife, Susan, two sons, and energetic Vizsla (dog), Cash. He is an avid snowboarder, fisherman, live music fan, and runner—he’s even training for a half-marathon in September. Thank you, Matthew, for sharing your insights with us.
